Why Millions Of Potatoes Are Being Thrown Away During The Pandemic | Big Business

Potato farmers in Idaho and Montana are destroying millions of potatoes. Restaurant closures because of the COVID-19 pandemic caused a glut, and now, billions of pounds of potatoes are stuck in the supply chain. It's caused unprecedented financial losses, food waste, and emotional turmoil for farmers whose livelihood depends on their crops.

This is evil. People need all those potatoes to eat. They should not be buried! Some farmers have better sense and are selling straight to the consumer. Give them to food banks. There's a food shortage coming and you're helping create it!

I'm genuinely curious about the numbers if someone can kindly explain:
I would assume a necessary crop such as potatoes would be able to make a $500,000+ profit for a farm a season?
Where do their savings go? Wouldn't they have a savings account somewhere in the millions that could help prevent feeling any kind of hit from a bad year?
Gonna look up if there's a numbers video on here on YT.

Make friends with your local farmer or farmers market and get ready for the coming food shortage. Because of idiocy like this, right out of Soviet Russia or Mao's China.

Like a lot of other smart people said, it's a logistics problem, shipping so much, to somewhere far cost money, shipping fee, so if they give out so much to so far, they'd go bankrupt.
